Anglers Edge

Privacy Policy

Anglers Edge is an offline-first lake-analysis tool. It is designed so that your data stays on your phone. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what the app does and does not do with your information.

The short version: no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking. Your location and everything you create in the app stay on your device. The only information that ever leaves your phone is an email you choose to send us yourself.

No accounts, no analytics, no ads

Lake data lives on your device

All lake maps, bathymetry, and analysis data are bundled with the app or downloaded once and stored locally on your device. The app is built offline-first: after installation it works fully without a network connection.

Your precise location never leaves your phone

If you grant location permission, your precise GPS position is used only on your device to show your position on the lake map. Your location is never transmitted, never uploaded, and never stored anywhere off your device. Denying the permission only removes the on-map position marker — every other feature keeps working.

Optional online extras

The app works fully offline. When you are online, three optional features contact public weather services over HTTPS: live conditions (Open-Meteo and Environment & Climate Change Canada's MSC GeoMet/SWOB services), measured degree-days (Open-Meteo archive), and water-level gauges (MSC GeoMet hydrometric). These requests contain only the lake's own centre coordinates or fixed government station numbers — never your position, never any identifier, and nothing else about you or your device. They are plain HTTPS requests, not third-party SDKs, and they set no cookies or trackers.

Downloadable lake packs

The app ships with 19 lakes built in. Additional lake packs are an optional download, fetched once over HTTPS from static file hosting (GitHub Releases) when you explicitly tap Download, and then stored on your device for offline use forever. These requests contain nothing about you — they are plain file downloads with no account, no identifiers, no cookies. As with any website visit, the hosting provider's servers see a normal HTTPS request; the file itself carries no information about you or your device. Pack files are SHA-256-verified against the app's catalog before use.

Your logs, waypoints, and tracks stay on your phone

Sonar logs, waypoints, catch logs, lake requests, GPS breadcrumb tracks, soundings, and any notes you create are stored only on your device. You can export them yourself (for example as a GPX or CSV file) using the app's share features — exports happen only when you explicitly choose to share, through the apps you choose. Requesting a lake we don't have yet records the request on your device; it is shared only if you choose to send it yourself.

Feedback emails are initiated by you

The in-app feedback option opens your own mail app with a draft addressed to us. Nothing is sent unless you press send. The draft contains only what you write plus diagnostic context the app includes for you to review: the app version, the lake you were viewing, and your device model. You can delete any of it before sending.

Children

The app is a fishing-analysis tool and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Because the app collects nothing, any change would be about new clearly-described, opt-in behavior — never retroactive collection.
